The term “Janus employee” comes from the 2018 United States Supreme Court case of Janus v. AFSCME in which the Court ruled that public sector unions cannot collect union dues without the written consent of the employee.

The member registration form serves as the authorization to deduct union dues, making you a “Member” rather than “Janus Employee”.

CODE dues are only $9 per pay period which is lower than AFSCME, Police and Fire dues.

Among the many things that Union dues pay for are the resources that assist every employee in the CODE bargaining unit.  Two of the most important resources are:

  • Representation at disciplinary hearings, grievances, and arbitrations.
  • Support required to negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreement

You will NOT be eligible to vote on the contract if you are not a dues-paying member of CODE.

There are a lot of other ways your dues help us to help you, so if you would like to learn more, or you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us.
